Hi!

I have an inspiron e1405 Core Duo 1.86ghz
60GB SATA HD
DVD-RW
2 X 512mb DDR2 533mhz (and 667mhz)
Integrated graphics.

I keep on getting a complete system shut down with a blue screen that reads "memory parity error"

I changed both RAM sticks.
Different DVD-RW drive
No other devices are connected to the notebook.

Now, I had MCE 2005 and wanted to install Vista Home premium thinking it was a windows error.
Well, I just got it in windows Vista as well.

WTH can I do?

What could be causing this error?

TIA!

When does the error occur and what do you do to make it give the error?

Last time this happened to me, I went into safe mode and did a system restore. Of course this was happening when Windows was starting up due to a bad update from Adobe.

Did you reformat and then install Vista or just "upgrade"?

If all else fails, try using a live Linux boot cd to see if it really is a Windows problem.

A google search may be helpful to. ;)

It happens randomly...and I formatted, then installed vista and after completion, I got the BSOD with the Parity error.

Weird thing is that sometimes I can go for a week or more with no problems, and this past week, I got it @ least 5 times in 4 days!

Try running the Dell diagnostics (F12 at the Dell splash screen just after powering on, or by booting to the Dell Drivers & Utilities CD) or memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com) to check for problems with the memory or CPU. My guess is that the tests will show bad RAM (either system, CPU cache, or possibly video card) as the cause of the problem.

If you have any questions on the diagnostics feel free to let me know. If there is failed memory I can get the service set up for you (assuming the computer is in warranty).

I am getting the same problem on my E1705.
PSA diagnostics fine, Memtest86 overnight, no errors,
Dell crash diagnostics, no problems. Yet it BSODs, even when idling.

What wireless card do you have installed?
