hp compaq nx9005

ive always had a pc so now havin a notebook is a new experience anyway heres my u questions
i have just bought a hp compaq nx9005 what are your views on these machines and are they reliable
also on the left hand side on the notebook is 2 slots top one i use for my wireless network but what is the bottom slot for.
last quetion is when i plug the s-video plug in to the back of the notebook and into ny tv nothing happens do you need to run specific software to use the s-video port
