View Full Version : E1705 video playback sucks with Vista x64, advice?
I've tried the latest nvidia 100.59 and when I attempt to play an Itunes Mpeg4 video the video freezes and unfreezes as the sound continues. What advanced settings will be best for playing steady video. I want to watch Battle Star Galacctaca, dammit!
UPDATE: A DVD disk plays fine, but whenever I try to play a web video or a downloaded Mpeg-4 file the video will stop and go like there is a memory problem.

I have this problem also but I have an M1710 (32Bit Vista Ultimate) and I also have not yet had time to look into it. I would imagine its something to do with a codec in Vista, Driver, or maybe (doubt it) it has something to do with Windows Vista having the protection against playing certain videos? I dont know much about that but I have heard people are having troubles with it.
I went to itunes web site and followed their recommendations for advanced Quicktime player settings, and playback using itunes is now satisfactory. Basically you have to turn off direct x in quicktime.
Ever since I installed Vista x64, itunes would crash while I'm playing one of their downloaded videos as if there was a memory management problem. I downloaded the most recent microsoft Vista x64 update a few days ago, and I could play an Itunes video (Battle Star Galacttaca) with decent non-stuttering performance. The following day I get the same, unbearable, stuttering video playback and Itunes crashes. I don't recall changing any computer settings.
The only computer problems I know I have are the latest synaptics general release driver causes two unsigned driver notices to pop up after I boot up, and my bluetooth 350 (installed the latest Toshiba stack) driver does not have all its features working (why the f doesn't dell provide a Vista x64 350 bt driver? Why has bluetooth software often been a pain to install?).
What the hell. I'm not buying another cent of Itunes video until they release an itunes version (or somone else offers video I like) that supports Vista X64. What bothers me is the playback worked well that one day after the MS download, then the following day the itunes video playback crashes. It makes me think there is some hardware or software setting that that can be controlled to work with itunes.
I listen to alot of podcasts, so I'll still support itunes, but if there was another podcast and video service like itunes that worked well, I'd catch that boat, and leave itunes in the wake. There needs to be more competition in this media field.

i feel like theres lots of directx problems for video play back, people have been having problems with VLC media player, i've been having problems with media player classic. All on vista. I too am using vista 64 and when I run the files on XP they run smooth as silk but on Vista idk. Allegedly disabling direct x in certain aspects fixes the problem (bypasses the problem) but I don't think you can disable directx in mpc

In VLC its better to use the Open GL renderer if you have an Nvidia card in Vista.

What if you use the 101.41 Drivers from the Nvidia website using a custom INF file?
In the power plan options, I change from performance to balanced, and itunes video runs much better.
I think it is related to by bluetooth driver, and some kind of deleterious interaction with the the power option control. If I turn bluetooth radio off, put the computer in sleep mode, re-awake the computer, I can then watch Itunes video with no problem.
I've never had a good working bluetooth driver since I upgraded to Vista x64. My best setup so far is using the Vista x64 Dell M90 bluetooth 350 driver, although I haven't been able to get a headset to work yet, which sucks if one wants to use Vista voice to text features or listen to music/podcasts. After running and cancelling a frozen M90 driver several times, the DFU firmware finally loaded, and most of the drivers loaded.
I also used the M90 synaptics driver with good results.
