My Inspiron 6000 which i've had for over a year (1.5) started not charging and flickering when the AC adapter was plugged in. Thought it was the ac adapter itself, bought a new one and then it worked for a while then didnt. Found out it was an issue on the motherboard itself. I got a technician (at school) to solder the ac adapter input back in and the laptop worked for a cpl days but i think it poped back out. Ive gotten him to look at it again and see what he can do.

Has anyone had any experience with trying to fix this problem without having dell replace the motherboard for $400.

I saw a website that had a new charging adapter input thingy for around 34$CAD i was wondering if should buy that one and solder it in myself...will this take away the problem? Or do i need a new laptop

Any help would be appreciated thanks

It's more than likely a problem with the DC Jack itself. best bet is to try a new DC Jack and solder it in place of the current one. Also, motherboards are MUCH cheaper on eBay, but you have to look at the auctions very carefully to get the exact board you need.
