Hi
I have a small problem, I just purchased a modular bay in the hope that I could partition it and run XP on both partitions with Different versions of office on each partition. I though I could do this by removing the HD form my machine D820 and then installing the Modular bay hard drive, go throught the XP install process. once that is done put it back in the modular bay and then boot from it... but.. the hard drive in the modular bay the one in the machine are not the same.

Somy question is, how to I load XP on a modular bay to allow me to boot from it? I even tried putting the hard drive in one of my other laptops and then installing windows from there.. but when booted from the dell via the modular bay I get the blue screen of death... Anyone have any experiance in Booting from a modular bay ?
thanks

Start the XP Install with BOTH drives in the laptop. The problem appears to be XP isn't writing a proper boot sector. You'll start setup, and then XP will ask you which partition to install to. Select the drive you wish to install XP on and go about it as normal XP setup will configure the boot.ini file to properly load the OS from that modular bay drive. The reason your installs on another machine didn't work is because Windows is NOT a portable OS. You can't install on one machine and then move the hard drive without windows throwing a catniption fit.
