So last weekend I was walking out to the front room of my house with my XSP2 it was on and open. My new dog decided to jump up at me and knocked my laptop out of my hand. It landed on our concrete floor. The damage is as follows.
The dvd drive popped open, the battery came out and is broken and the latch system on the laptop is also busted. The right front of the laptop is broken and has some loose parts inside. I tried to power it up and the power light comes on and just goes out. The screen does not look like it took too much damage but may be broken, I do not know. When you close it you can see that it is bent. So it is dead. Dell is picking it up today.

My question is are they going to fix it or do you think they will replace it. Just worried if they fix it I'm going to have other problem down the line.
Before I boxed it up I took out my 2 gigs and put back the stock 512 mem and I also took my 160gig drive out and put the stock 60 back in. The stock hard drive was bad already and I was getting ready to call them for a replacement so I guess that will get replace now anyway.

I did hook the 160 gig drive up to a usb housing and was able to get my data off it. It is making noise so I'm guessing it is toast and I will replace it with one of the new 200 gig drives when my laptop returns.

Thats wierd you have to send it in first? What is you exact warrenty?

I have 4 years with next buis day parts and service and the accidental protection plan. I dropped mine with the power plugged in and it broke the bottem of the laptop where the power recepticle is. I called them, they had another M1710 built FROM SCRATCH and I got it in no more then 7 days. Then I put my broken and sad lappy in the box and shipped it to them, I kept the power supply and the battery becuase the paper did not state to ship it back. They recieved it, I checked with them to make sure all was good and that was all. Like I said, I am suprised you have to send it in first.

I have the accidental damage warranty for 3 years. I'm about half way through that time so far. Might be because I did not call I did it with the online support chat. How old was yours when you dropped it? Would be very nice to get a 1710 as a replacement.
