So I am dual booting my E1705 with Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) and Windows XP. Everything obviously works fine in Windows and I have not had any problems. I am enjoying Ubuntu however there are a few things I have yet to get work or am having problems with. Does anyone have fixes or know whats going on with the following?
1. The subwoofer/speaker on the bottom of the laptop does not work at all.
2. Is there any way for me to sync my Samsung T619 cell phone via Bluetooth?
3. The audio seems to not work sometimes, it might just be after coming out of suspend?

1- You might just need to enable the subwoofer. If you double click the panel speaker icon the mixer will come up. You might need to make sure surround is not muted. You can also click preferences and a ton of device options will show up. You may have to enable one.
My audigy2 zs needs to be manipulated through alsamixergui, so you may want to give that a shot. I made a launcher icon to it in my panel.
2- Sorry, don't know anything about that phone.
3- For me, I have this issue when some apps chose to use OSS sound and other choose to use alsa. For instance, XMMS may try running through a misconfigured OSS while other apps will try to run through alsa. You just need to be aware what's being used in each program. The sooner everything moves to alsa the better.
As far as suspend is concerned, I could never get it working properly so you are one ste ahead if it doesn't crash your machine.

When I open the sound options it only has master and PCM both of which are up. There is nothing more in preferences to help me out. This is kinda frustrating =\

You have to open it up and got to Edit -> Preferences
You'll see a list a tracks to make visible. I would enable Surround, Center, and experiment with some of the others that aren't obvious.
Did you try alsamixergui? Just go to the command prompt and type alsamixergui and it should come up. You may need to 'sudo apt-get install alsimixergui' to install it.
For me to get surround working on my machine I needed to go into alsamixergui and unmute the surround tracks. I set the speakers to the levels I wanted and everything sounds great now. I bet that's all you have to do.

I tried that and had no options that I could change.

You have to be more specific. Saying "I tried that" implies you only tried one thing when I suggested two possibilities. I'm assuming that you didn't bother trying the alsamixergui part. If you're able to get it installed and it recognizes your card then it should give you many more options so it's worth trying.

My apologies, I did try both with no avail, including the alsamixergui. I started a thread over in the dell 17+ section before I knew there was a linux section and there might be a fix there.
