Hey people, got a £600 budget and im thinking about buying the aspire 5633 laptop but not 100% sold on it yet. Anyone whos reading this and has 1 or has experienced one let me know what your thought are. Im a I.T technician myself so I know what im looking for but with a budget I realise I have to lower my standards a bit. Gonna be for all day using (browsing, downloading, playing videos/ music etc) and a bit of gaming and I know its possible on it just lowered options, but thats fine with me. Any replies appreciated!! :dude: :awdance:

I got one of the last versions on XP (1GB ram), and boy what a purchase!
Does everything I need and more.
I'd always thought of Acer as more of a budget brand, but in reality they are right up there with the big boys, short of spending some serious money this has to be quite possibly the best laptop in this price range.
You won't regret it!

Try here, lists drivers for vista though whether there 64 or 32 it doesn't make that very clear: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5630.html

I bought a 5633 acer widescreen a few weeks ago. Excellent machine, and depending on model includes a built-in webcam. I put 2GB of RAM in mine for good measure. Brilliant performance, especially when multi-tasking. Very silent running, very nice screen, great graphics.
Runs Counter-Strike Source, Max Detail 1280x768 at 40fps.
Cutting edge and modern games such as "Supreme Commander" however, run very poorly due to the "slow" CPU.
Very happy non-the-less with my purchase and would recommend to other buyers. As with most ACER machines, if your of the multimedia appriciating sort you'll want to invest in a PCMCIA sound card.

Got one late last year - bad points - intermitent fan kicks in evry minute or so and is noisy, the N key on my keyboard occassionally heats up underneath and you have to press really hard to get it to work, when sat on your lap it gets very hot and you need to use a tray to avoid this and worst of all mine has just started to runrelly slow taking ages to boot up. this could be a software issue, still investigating. Also the 120gb memory is split onto 2 drives so is in effect 60gb until I sus out how to use it properly.
Good points - initial performance & value for money, good screen
Will flog you mine if you want - I would get an IBM next time - just got one from work and the difference is remarkable despite the price.

I seriously doubt its the CPU, esp since the 5633 has the Intel Core 2 Duo chip. Rather, the Intel integrated graphics card seriously limits the graphical abilities to render the game.

Careful my IBM Thinkpad R50e failed at 14 months,no one was interested in warranty
had it checked, was told it was a motherboard fault? have to believe it.got the oportunity to get my hands on an ex display model R50e. lo & behold this one was
also faulty, another motherboard fault.always thought IBM were good but now looking elsewhere.hence checking out acer & possibly dell before i buy another.
