Hello mates!

Tried to google and search, but didnt got verified info about differences between DDR and DDR2 so-dimms. My travelmate would like to have more memory and I'm looking cheapest possible alternative. 333Mhz DDR2 is fastes that nb can handle, but if I use faster mem like 533 or even 667, would it run with slower rate, like 333? Channle support 266 and 333 if I recall it right, but can it handle faster memory? That was my question number one...

Two: is only external difference between DDR and DDR2 the slot?

First of all, there's no such thing as 333MHz DDR2. DDR2 starts at speeds of 533MHz. Also, there are other differences between DDR and DDR2. They are NOT backwards compatible. What kind of memory fits inside a motherboard is dependant upon it's chipset. If your system only supports DDR then you may be able to go with DDR400, but if it only supports 333 the motherboard will "downclock" the speed to 333 and run the modules at that. Another thing to remember is that in DDR2 while the speed may be higher so is the latency, which kind of evens things out a bit. In some cases a fast DDR400 module can be faster in tests then a DDR2 module.
