I'm having some pretty weird memory issues in Ubuntu Dapper. First off, Opera seems to have a memory leak. If I leave it open for a day or so it will use up over 1gb of memory. Eclipse doesn't close all of it's java processes so if I open and close eclipse a couple times it fills up my memory.
Separate to those two issues, I just don't get this... Here's some memory usage from my system monitor:
Gnome panel: 207mb
Nautilus: 70mb
checkgmail: 38mb!!!!!
clock applet: 28mb
cpu freq applet: 14mb
conkey(which does cpufreq, cpu monitor, temp monitor, network monitor, process monitor, etc.): 1.2mb
Why on earth does Gnome panel take up so much memory? The combined applets take up over 100mb of memory when conky does more and takes up only 1.2mb. Checkgmail is a joke, what the hell could it possibly be doing to take up 38mb?
I plan to upgrade to fiesty when it comes out, but I'd like to resolve some of these things before then. I feel like I'm running windows again.
