Go to "CONTROL", "MOUSE","DEVICE". Click on "SETTING". selet"Button", Click "ENABLE" and then set your buttons.
My buttons sometimes would stop working and I just need to go back and re-set the buttons. If this does not work, reinstall the Touchpad program. I reinstalled the Touchpad program a few times before my Ferrai 4005 touch pad would work consistantly.

Thanks for the info! Mine wasn't working for so long that I forgot it was even there. Now I can use it for the first time.

Hi everyone
Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post! I have the same problem. I have an Acer Aspire 5101 with a 4-way scroll button that has just suddenly stopped working. This thread says to go to 'control', 'mouse', 'device' etc.. Unfortunately I don't know what it means by go to control. Is this the control panel in the start menu? I have tried this, but when I go to mouse it does not have an option of device. I also would not know how to reinstall the touchpad programme as suggested. Any help is HUGELY appreciated.
Thanks, Hannah

Hannah,
The Mouse Synaptics Touchpad program should be in your recovery Acer CD.
If you are using Window XP at default settings, you might not see the mouse in your “CONTROL PANEL”.
Click Control Panel, go to the top, click “TOOLS” and then “FOLDER OPTIONS”.
SELECT “USE WINDOWS CLASSIC FOLDERS” and click “OK”.
You should see the Mouse Icon.
You can go to Acer and download the program. I was able to find Aspire 5100 not sure if that is what you need. Below is the link.
