View Full Version : Battery Void Warranty?

Few questions:

1. Will buying a DELL battery from somewhere other than Dell void my warranty? If not, can anyone suggest brand-new, discounted Dell accessories?

2. What do the 3 "padlocks light icons" that have "9" "A" and a "down arrow" on the top of my Inspiron 1705 laptop mean/do?

3. I'm backing my work up on an External hard drive, therefore I don't need the 10 Gb partitioned drive reserved for backup. Can I delete the data from this drive w/out messing anything up? Its just a copy, right? If I can delete it, what's the best/easiest way to do that being that it gives a warning that "the drive is currently in use........format anyway?"?

Thanks...........

eBay is an excellent place to find genuine Dell batteries on the cheap. I bought a new battery for my D820 and it was $70 shipped. 9 cell even.

The Padlock icons are only the 3 keyboard LEDs that have been on computer keyboards since....since....since DOS. NumLock Caps Lock And Scroll Lock

That 10GB partition is your restore partition. It is the ONLY way to reinstall your OS if you did not receive an OS CD with your system.

Great thanks for the advice...and just to clarify, buying Dell battery NOT from Dell won't void any part of my warranty?

No. The battery just wont be covered by the warranty.
