Hey guys,

I recently started receiving a "USB Device Not Recognized" error, thus barring me from using portable storage devices such as USB drives, etc. Even my external floppy drive triggers the error. I have tried to install drivers using the Windows auto-install program, but it never finds any appropriate drivers. However, these devices are PnP, so they should require no drivers. Therefore I am assuming the problem lies in the USB/chipset drivers, but I have very limited knowledge on this topic. This problem just kind of developed one day, so I am completely lost as to what is the cause of the problem. The interesting thing is that all my other USB devices work (i.e. Vision M synch, wireless mouse and keyboard, etc.). If anybody has any suggestions or work-arounds, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

PS: I am back from my long hiatus from Notebookforums lol. And don't laugh at my wimpy, crappy machine...haha...I am contemplating whether or not to get a new computer. :D

Hmm, by chance are they powered by USB also?

All of these devices are powered by an internal power source, except for the wireless keyboard/mouse unit, which is USB powered. So, clearly power is not an issue with the USB drive error. Any other ideas?

well usually problems like this are either chipset driver related or
a failed USB Port.

Check in Control panel and see if you have the USB Devices present and if there are any errors listed for any of them.

You can try to reinstall the Chipset drivers fro the laptop

As for storage devices such as portable harddrives I find that the Enclosure or even the cable itself can be a culprit.
