Have you tried pressing any keys? Usually when my laptop is in sleep mode, a simple key stroke is all it takes to wake it up.

If it's in hibernation, then yes the power button is the way to wake it up. So I don't think that you should press the power when it's asleep. All you're doing is just shutting down ur laptop when u could be just pressing a key.

Actually I two own a dell Inspiron 1501, the wont awaken from sleep unless you press the power button, it should turn right back up, what OS are you using?

If you set it up for Standby or Hibernation then this is the usual method of turning on to prevent uneeded power usage from accidental mouse movement or such. An alternative method to slep it just putting hte HD, LCD to sleep in the power management settings.

I have the same problem.

The problem isn't that you have to press the power button to wake up from hibernation, it's that you have to hold down the power button (five seconds give or take) until it reboots. No buttons seem to awaken the computer. Microsoft has acknowledged some problems with hibernation, but I hadn't found any solutions for this particular problem.

If you guys haven't already tried it, I would recommend giving the new BIOS update (v.2.3.0, A09, 3/20/2007) for the Inspiron 1501 a try (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R151827&SystemID=INS_PNT_1501&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=13120&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=5&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=202052). According to the notes, one of the things it addresses is resuming from S3 (standby) state while on battery.
