Hey guys,

I'm disappointed about how bad is the Sigmatel Audio performance in my E1705 that i decided to replace that. How can i do that? Is there another way to get better sound in E1705?

Thanks

The Sigmatel chip is integrated on the motherboard, so you can't replace it. The only way to get better sound is to use an external USB device, or a PCMCIA card. Creative sells that kind of stuff, and there's a few others as well.

If you want more features, there are three options; upgrade to Vista, and/or buy the Creative software drivers that add new features in software, or buy a USB soundcard (no hardware acceleration).

If you want hardware acceleration, there is one option, buy an X-Fi ExpressCard when it comes out.

If you want a better SNR, there are two options, buy a USB soundcard, or buy an X-Fi ExpressCard when it comes out.

The only options currently available are Vista, Creative software, and a USB soundcard. None of these will provide hardware acceleration, and only the USB soundcard will provide a possibly better SNR.

There's no guarantee that the Expresscard will do hardware acceleration either.

Thanks for the help guys.

If i buy the Creative software drivers, it will increase the performace and quality and games? I mean, it can fix some sound issues in some games that the sound doesnt work well?

Theres nothing you can buy at the moment for a e1705 that will increase EAX performance HOWEVER if you use default sound properties like Miles Emulated 3D sound you will get equal or better performance with just the base sigmatel card.

There's no reason to think it wouldn't. There'd be no reason to get it otherwise. The Audigy 2 ZS Notebook did have hardware acceleration, and I think it's silly to think that the X-Fi wouldn't.

Quality/fixing issues? Yes. While the signal to noise ratio won't change, you'll get better quality through things like EAX, and word has it that games tend to work better with it.

Performance? No. You're doing even more in software. You'll either get the same or slower performance.
