How do I transfer folders from one laptop to another if I connect both laptops using a RJ45 cable and access them via the Network folder.

I can transfer files to the Users folder on my 2nd laptop but not folders to the second laptop.

I'm doing some file management and file editing using win XP and I noticed in Task Manager that explorer.exe is using approximately 50% CPU resources, even after I close the explorer window on hte desktop.

This is causing my Dell m1710 to run hot, and causes using a second cpu intensive program (video editing) to use the other 49 or 50% cpu resources to max out my cpu at 100%.

The only way to reduce the 50% cpu load on explorer.exe in task manager AFTER the window is closed on the desktop is to click on "end now" (in task manager) which then makes all my desktop icons disappear.

I can log off from task manager and then log back on and my desktop reappears. However, as soon as I reopen windows explorer, it starts using 50% of my cpu resources.

memory usage is like 34,000k, vm is like 39,000 k and base priority is "normal"

Any suggestions on what to do?

What's the best anti-virus software out there that's either free or paid that's good at removing viruses from hard drives thoroughly.

The reason why I ask is because I had to put a replacement hard drive from one of my hard drives into a caddy because it got infected with a virus that's preventing it from booting up so what I want to do is connect it to my spare laptop so I can use anti-virus software to remove any viruses/spyware/malware.

Hi, I've just received my upgrade kit from ACER for Windows 7. The question is should I use the discs to upgrade from Vista or choose the option to do a clean install? I've heard that previously with Windows upgrades it is best to do a clean install then there is no conflicts/problems from the previous O/S??

Ok, so I'm running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on my Acer Aspire one netbook. The maching is the 8.9" version, the particular model # is AOA 150-1635. I was able to install 7 using microsoft's usb/dvd tool and a flash drive, and one quick run of windows update got me most all of my hardware drivers. It got all of the drivers, but I reinstalled the drivers for the touchpad and the chipset controller driver as well as installing some factory acer software such as launch manager, just for increased functionality. So far, I have every factory function and feature working properly with one exception. No matter what I do, I cannot get the keyboard to be able to control the volume. Usually, the Fn key + the up or down directional key raises or lowers the volume. Every other Fn key works fine, including the screen brightness, which is controlled by the right and left directional keys. I am stumped, I even installed a new sound card driver direct from Realtek.

Does anyone have any ideas?

cliffnotes: installed 7 professional on aspire one netbook, used windows update to install drivers, re-installed drivers for wireless card, sound card, and chipset controllers with download from manufacturers, flashed bios to newest version from Acer, installed Acer launch manager. No matter what, can't get volume to be controlled by Fn+ up or down. All other Fn keys work perfectly.

So I installed Win7 on my desktop (laptop will follow) and I have a problem with the sound. Sometimes when Firefox loads heavy web pages, the sound in Winamp just stutters.

I updated the drivers to the latest ones using Windows Update for my Creative SB X-Fi Extreme Audio but it only partly solves the issue: stuttering still happens now and then. I also moved my sound card to a different PCI port (to avoid IRQ conflicts).

Any ideas on this? Thanks!

I have HP v3225Au notebook which has AMD Turion 64 processor. Yesterday i installed Windows 7 on it and i got the RAM upgraded to 4 GB.

I can see the RAM fine in Bios and My Computer but in Windows 7 its also saying:

Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (2.62 GB usable)

Why its saying 2.62 GB usable ? Can't it handle 4 GB ram ? Is it hardware limitation or Windows limitation ? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit where as my processor is 64 bit, is this the issue ?

On the lower right side of the taskbar where the little icons are, there is a upward pointing triangle. If i click "Customize", i get to see the tiny icons of programs I once had, but uninstalled as well. How do I exile the tiny icons of uninstalled programs. The fact they stay there bothers me even after properly uninstalling.

Addenda: For example, I uninstalled HDTune and Everest from my laptop, but since they had little taskbar icons in the lower right, they stay there even after I uninstalled them. Is there something in the registry that I can use to manually eradicate them. It bothers me they stayed there.

Can anyone recommend a simple/easy to use fax software? I'm just looking for something that will allow me to send faxes through MS Office (much like the fax/scanner manager in Win XP) and receive faxes as a service anytime I turn it (the service) on.

I have a question about windows xp product keys. Is the key code specific to a cd? Or can any good key code work with any windows xp CD? Reason I ask is my cd is broken but I can get a copy of the software. I want to know if I can use a different cd with my code?
