I have two 8700gt's and I'm trying to figure out which cards will work. Alienware will not help since I bought it off their e-bay store. Any info would be great.

Have any of you M17x owners run into audio or gaming stuttering issues? This seems to be a problem for more than a few folks in other forums, but I don't see it being discussed here in these forums. Some people are severely affected, others not so much. There seems to be no rhyme or reason regardless of chip or GPU configs.

DPC latency checker software can be downloaded from http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml. I'd be interested if those who have an M17x could run this real quick and maybe post some screen captures.

when i received my m17x it had AO1 bios installed and i never had any issues or glitches during startup with this bios.. I recently flashed the bios to AO2 and sometimes not always but intermittently the bios will not post.. when i push the power button the laptop turns on, leds and keyboard light up and the fans kick on but i get no bios screen or the alien head display but the computer continues to run but will not boot into windows.. i have to do a hard shut down and start again and then it will post and everything works fine.. do you think i could have had a bad flash and should i reflash back to AO1?? dont know what to do...:scratch: could i have a mobo issue???

New registered user but I have been coming for almost a year reading up on various things and I have two questions that i havent seen answered before. I have upgraded my M5550 in several ways, new core2duo t7200 and a ATI mobility Radeon HD3650 both of which are very nice from previous hardware, but one thing is still sub-par in my book the LCD screen its resolution is 1280x800 which is okay but i was wondering if and how big I could upgrade my 15.4 inch screen. Second, where is there a good place to buy new keyboards for an m5550 i have found a couple places and they are over $100 and that is quite ridiculous.

Got my new Alienware M15x on Friday. Facial Recognition is bit of a gimmick.

Now I learn a friend who has had his for just over a week is toast. Looks like the Motherboard is fried. This is not the only instance of dead M15x's.

Hello, i just replaced my seagate 250gig hdd with a corsair p128 ssd drive. my question is how do i configure this drive in the bios?? my seagate was set to AHCI not ATA, i am running just one drive so i know the raid option is a no go but what is the differance between AHCI and ATA and is one of the two better performance with a ssd drive.. not that savy with bios hdd configurations.. any help is appreciated...:scratch:

Problem1: whenever i start the laptop for the first time in a day, the screen doesnt show up...(altough the laptop status lights work properly,showing its runing)
I have to connect the laptop to the charger to get the screen runing, afterwards no matter how many time i restart the laptop in a day it works fine..

Problem2: I just got my Free win7 Dvd...
Ugraded from Vista to Win7 every software is working fine except Alien fusion, sense & touch and I get this strage box after loggin in, saying Error0000.... wonder wat that is?

Problem3: When i played shift on vista it played very smooth @ the highest settings...
But now after the Win7 Upgrade its running real slow even @ the lowest setting.... Tried upgrading and downgrading the nvidia drivers... nothing happens....

Problem4: When i turn off the laptop and charge it, the status lights(alienheads) dont show that the the machine is charging or not(they are simply off)??....


I guess someone would have answers to my problems .....

My M17x, while spec'd out to the max, only has a 1440X900 display, however, I am using an external monitor setup with 1920X1200 resolution through the M17x's HDMI output. Picture looks great, but when I change the resolution to 1920X1200, it shrinks each side in about 1/2". Is this a design flaw of the M17x, or is this standard for this type of setup? Thanks :(

Well I deleted my hard drive after loosing my Alienrespawn v2.0 MBR. I deleted the hard drive then i installed alienware vista home prem. 64Bit and also installed windows 7 home prem. 64BIT.

Can I recover my lost partitions and files after doing all that?

I noticed on my computer that the Command Center strip isn't even accross the top of the computer and tends to be "raised" in certain areas.

I made a connection between the screws that are holding it in place from the bottom of the machine. At first I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me, but it is indeed uneven and seems 'raised' in spots.

I checked several pictures of different people's M17Xs and they all seem to have this un-eveness with the command center strip.

Looking at it from left to right, its even then slightly drops where the screw holds it in place then continues evenly until it reaches the other screw then seems to raise slightly where the eject button, sound, etc. buttons are then continues to its finish. In this area, there also seems to be a slight bump which seems to be cause by the hardware packed underneath.

My concern is I don't know if this 'raised' area is raised enough to possible scratch the screen in some way... :scratch:

Ok just want to know if others have experienced this problem. After start up I am still seeing 30 - 50 % load on cpu. When I start the task manager it is AlienFusion.exe eating up cpu time. Once I end the process the cpu load to nil. Now is there a problem with Fusion? Do i need to delete it and reinstall?

Does anyone on here know on the bottom of the keyboard, which is the ribbon cable responsible for the lighting of the keyboard??

just upgraded to windows 7 and it seems like my system has gotten slow. are you guys getting the same or your 17x ?
