Hello

I have a satellite pro A120 xp sp3.

I've been trying to get it to recognise a 2nd hard drive on the secondary ide channel but it won't. Cd drive has been removed and replaced with one of these, the with the pata to sata interface.

http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&products_id=245

The second hard drive is a seagate sata 500 GB drive. Drive is spinning and recieving power but not showing up in storage management or device manager.

In the Bio's (uptodate) it shows me this but won't let me edit it.

Drives I/O

Built in HDD = serial ATA port 0

CD rom = Secondary ide (170H - IRQ 15)

To me the hardware is capable of supporting two HDD's as long as you remove cd drive but it seems like the bio's is locking me out of deselecting CD rom on the second IDE channel.

Please could some one point me in the right direction to resolve this.

Thanks
She waited til I came home to look at it, and honestly I'm baffled. With the sound all the way up, the speakers are super quiet. I checked all the volume meters I could get my hands on, the windows one, as well as the ones associated with the sound card driver. They were all at maximum. I tried hooking it up to speakers to see if maybe those were just bad, but it didn't help, so it's the sound card. I reinstalled the audio drivers, and it still didn't do anything. I really didn't know what else to try. Is it possible her sound card just ate it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, i'm new here and really to the whole upgrading laptop parts. i love taking things apart and putting them back together and really don't think this little endeavor i find myself in will be to difficult to handle by myself. but i do need some assistance, mostly in checking some of my work. My notebook is 2 years old and was my first, and i've been using it regularly everyday. i'm a sophomore at OSU and have almost all my notes saved to Office on either Power Point or Word. yesterday, Office decided not to work, i deleted the program, reinstalled it, and it just kept crashing, saying something might be wrong with my Hard drive. and i've been meaning to upgrade to 7 for a while because i get it for $30 so i was just gonna buy a new hard drive, 4gb upgrade, and i need my right side USB card because it's faulty. i did some investigation and found i need:

2 2GB 200PIN SO-DIMM DDR PC2-6400 about $100
I haven't decided on a brand or capacity of hard drive yet. Maybe you guys can give me some input on that. I'd really appreciate it. But i want a 7200RPM w/ a seek time less than 12ms, of course it's a SATA 2.5"
And Windows 7 64bit- i was wondering if i should just burn it to a DVD or upload it to a thumb drive?
i'm going to be doing a clean install and i heard flash drives are quicker. you input is appreciated.

Also, i am looking to upgrade my CPU from AMD Turion64X2 TL-58 to the TL-68 model. It's a difference of .5Ghz. i'm not sure it'll make a difference, but if the price is good, who knows. ANd if i do find the Tl-68, it runs 4w warmer, but i always have my notebook on an external fan so i don't think it'll be an issue, but the CPU is not really a necessity.

Well, that's my story. Thank you for your time and any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

I've had a problem with my notebook that I can't solve, since I've installed windows 7 RTM x64 version.
I've noticed that something's wrong after finding out that my Windows Experience Index has dropped to 2.7 instead of 4.5, I used to have on Vista. For those who don't know my specs are:
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60, for which I've got 2.7 rating, 4Gb Kingston DDR2-667 (333 MHz) - 4.4, scores of graphics and hard-drive are the same.

I've read at the one of forums that it can be an issue with power saver options, but it hasn't got any option which says about processor frequency changing according to power plan. I've also installed new 2.0 version of BIOS from Toshiba web-site, but it only made things worse: I've got 6.0 rating of gaming graphics but Desktop Perf for Aero has dropped to 1.0!

I've installed some diagnostic software: Everest and CPU-Z and I found out that my CPU works with frequency of 800Mhz (multiplier is 4x , voltage 0.8V) and my DRAM frequency is 159.8Mhz (I don't know if it's ok, but I know that 4.4 score is definitely too low though ).

So tell me guys, is this an issue of operating system? Should I try to install Windows 7 32-bit version, or it won't change anything? Or maybe I should try some software that would change the frequency of my FSB?
I'm looking forward to your answers because I don't know what to do.

Paul

Hello everyone.

My name is Chris and I'm a newbie here, so apologies if this has been posted in the wrong pleas or something, feel free to move it or give me some posting advice. But hopefully somebody will be able to give me some advice about the problems I've been experiencing.

I'm having some pretty major problems with my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 296. Heres as much nformation as I know about the system, the rest I am unable to check as you will learn later:

Model: Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - 296
Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP3
RAM: Can't remember exactly, but it was more than 1.5 and less than 2.
Processor: Intel Celeron

Sorry I am unable to give you any more specifications, but I don't know a lot about it and although I know how to find the information, I can't do that because of the nature of the problems I am experiencing.

So here's my problem:

Yesterday, the laptop was running well as normal, and I shut it down correctly, put it away, and then went out the house. Approximately an hour later, I returned, got it out again, and switched it on. This is what happens:

The fans start and the laptop makes the usual kind of mechanical startup noises.

The usual screen at the beginning comes up with Toshiba written on it and the prompt for "Press F2 to enter Setup", which then shortly disappears as normal.

I am then left with a blank black screen and the laptop starts beeping very loud. Nothing else happens, and the only way to stop the beeping is to force the laptop to turn off by holding down the power button for a few seconds.

This means I am unable to use the computer at all. Hopefully, someone at this forum will be able to help me.

Please note that, although I can do web design etc. I know nothing about the actual workings of a computer, so please use language that a computer noob can understand or I won't have a clue what you're talking about!

I am quite desperate so I am trying to get the problem fixed without sending the computer away. I have an iPhone due to arrive later this week, and the only other laptop I've got (The one I am on now) has Linux and I really don't understand Linux at all, and I heard that iTunes doesn't work on it! But sadly Windows was removed in a previous technology incident and shall never return to this system (I don't have the disk for it!).

I hope someone can help me, and I also hope I can save all my data and programmes but I know this isn't always possible. Thanks in advance.

My Qosmio F10 RE is having boot issues... Here's my list of trouble shooting results:

It started with Windows freezing periodically, and now immediately after the Qosmio logo I get characters all over the screen.

Grub still functions, although you can't read it, and I can initiate the boot into Windows or Linux, but both give graphical errors and freeze up.

I can load into Windows safemode, and it appears to look and act normally, and so does Ubuntu recovery mode... and as I mentioned earlier, the logo appears just fine, so I have my doubts it is a video card issue.

I have two sticks of RAM, and tried alternating both, and neither seems to change the issue (also did a mem-check and they seem to check out). I also can't load up my BIOS, nor boot off anything other than my HD.

Any thoughts on what all this might point to (aside from the generally unhelpful, "it's ****ed" comment)?

Thanks,
The U205 did come with a T7200 processor and I have the latest BIOS from Toshiba for the U200/205. However, the processor upgrade didn't "take". My computer would bluescreen as soon as it booted into Windows and the fan was running at full speed. Eventually it stopped turning on at all.

I downgraded to the original CPU and that seems to have fixed the issue. What I'm left wondering is "Did I get a bad CPU or is there some other issue with the upgrade I'm missing?"
