Working on a Dell Latitude C840, 1.8ghz Pentium M, 256mb PC2700 (upgrading to 512mb), 40gb hard drive, purchased at some kind of "emporium" or some such. The AC Adapter is model ADP-90FB, 90W, bios reads it as a 70W adapter, reports that the laptop should be using a 90W adapter (which it is) and that the computer won't run as it should, as such, and to press F1 to continue booting into battery saving mode (whatever). I've updated the bios which didn't change a thing.

Also, once up in Windows (XP Professional), System Properties reports the CPU correctly but claims it's running at 789mhz on AC. Adjusting the power options (Always On) makes no difference, disabling 'Smart CPU Mode' on AC, and setting 'CPU On AC' to Maximum Performance, in the bios, made no difference either.

Can these 2 issues be related? Other than this, the laptop runs just fine...:|

Thanks, -kd5-

I've also been able to download 80% of the ISO on a torrent I've found, but its now stopped as the guys who had 100% have gone off line.

I was hoping someone here has still got a copy of the ISO so I can reinstall it onto the laptop I've just replaced the hard drive with.

Dell WWAN card: PCI oder USB connected?

In Windows did the Dell WWAN mini-pci card showed up as pci/network-card or USB/modem device?

I think about using the UMTS modem from a virtual machine, and as I know that would be only available with USB connected devices.

My daughter's D610 slowly died during a 10 week car holiday trip in Northen Australia. From the description of how it gradually happened I assumed it could be bad power connection and eventually the battery failed.

Completely dismantled very carefully and tested the power connector, whilst not perfect I believe the solder joints were acceptable.

When power supplies PA10 or PA12 plugged in directly to the laptop no lights of any kind, with or without battery. Checked with other battery too, same result. The power supplies do deliver right voltage and good under load.

Have a docking station and partly to my surprise with the 95W or PA10 power supply the D610 works fine. With the PA12 or 65W power supply the docking station refuses to work telling you to shut down and replace the power supply.

Ran into a problem when I tried to test with the car power converter, which delievered enough power but was not recognised so docking station again refused. The second D610 I later had to hand allowed the car power to be used but under "protest", warning that performance might be poor. Eventually I got the PA10 which was accepted.

I have a second D610 which works fine on all 3 power supplies. Now having option for swopping parts, I would like to know what I can try to figure out what is causing the power interruption? :D

My question to this wonderful community is, I know that a lot of you have had experiences with getting a brand new "refurb" laptop that its a hair better than the one you have now because of the dell complete care warranty.

I currently have till mid December until my CC warranty runs out. Now, this is distasteful i know, but the tech that came out to replace my video card told me before my warranty runs out i should call dell again and tell them nothing works....Has anyone actually done this? or what do you think i should do???

Please send me a pm if you would rather not speak about it in public

Thanks to you all,
