Problem 1 When I listen to music at full volume the laptop BSOD's (only full volume)

This is the error from the the bsod:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort4. (With an event ID of 11)


Problem 2 When I check the report, it says:

(Under system)

This is every time i start the computer:

The speed of processor 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 0 seconds since the last report.

A friend of my g/f gave me her computer to fix. She said she took it to Best Buy and they said her HD is messed up. Now, if I order a new drive and the restore disks from HP, will that fix this issue? She is not worred about losing any data. Is my thinking correct? Install new HD, put in restore disks, start it up and follow the directions. Thanks in advance.

I got a new 250GB hard drive for my HP Compaq 6820s hard drive a few weeks ago and now I can't boot from it as it's been infected with a virus which prevents it from booting. [I get a brief flash of the infamous "Blue Screen" before it returns to the HP screen.

Is there any way; software-wise that I can clean the hard drive of any viruses if I put it in an external caddy?

Hi all, this is my first post here. For the past two years, I have been the proud owner of an hp dv9575nr notebook (specs HERE). It has served me very well, but I am at the point where I am comfortably out of warranty and interested in some upgrades/modifications. Some of these ideas I am throwing around probably aren't feasible, but I would like some input from some of you guys who know more than me on the subject. Earlier this afternoon, I replaced a dying noisy fan assembly with the aid of the HP service manual, so I am confident in my ability to install pretty much anything without much trouble.

The first thing I am looking at is a significant increase in storage capacity. The laptop came with 2 120 gb hard drives which, at the time of purchase, I thought I would never come close to filling up haha. Well, with the aid of a lightning fast internet connection at college I have amassed a quite large media collection. The setup now is I have my videos (almost 300gb) and my school documents stored on a 500gb WD external hard drive. I would like to have enough room on the internal storage to keep this stuff on, because sometimes the usb interface is sluggish and video quality suffers as a result. My 2nd hard drive currently houses my music library (80gb of 320kbps MP3's) and nothing else. What I would like to do is install a 7200rpm 250gb drive in slot #1, I'm thinking about This WD Scorpio Drive. I want to be able to house all of my documents and music on the first drive, and still have a lot of headroom while upgrading to a 7200rpm drive. For slot #2 I'm debating between a 500gb 7200rpm and a 640gb 5400 rpm. I would like to have the extra room of the 640gb drive, but the speed and cheaper price of the 500gb have me leaning that way. I'd like some opinions on this problem. I know this much storage is a bit overkill, but if I'm going to upgrade my hard drives, I'm going to upgrade. Another option would be to keep the #1 drive I have now and just getting that 640gb for slot #2, and keeping music and videos on the same drive.

I want to upgrade the memory in my computer, and now that I'm running 64bit Windows again I would like to move up to 4gb. I almost pulled the trigger on some corsair ram a few months ago, but hesitated, and now prices have shot through the roof. Do you guys think the prices are going to come back down after the market stabilizes a bit more, or am I just going to have to pay $80 for memory? If prices stay up that might be the difference between me getting it or not.

The last thing I'm wondering about is probably just a far fetched idea that would never work. I have always been disappointed that a computer this nice and expensive only runs at 1440x900 resolution. Several of my friends have other brand computers that aren't nearly this nice that run at 1920x1200. If I were to buy a replacement 17" lcd screen that was designed to run at that resolution, something like THIS, or another 17" WUXA panel, is there any way that I could make that work properly? I have a pretty stout graphics card by notebook standards, but I don't know if this would even be worth messing with.

The network driver should be a Atheros 5007E, For some reason its not working.
I got this laptop free and seeing i have a Enterprise edition of XP. I figure i'd wipe out this old VISTA.

Anyone know where to get XP drivers for this card? As the other drivers i've figured out already.

This is probably a stupid question but I'm new to having a laptop so here it goes... My Broadcom 802.11 b/g shows up on the Taskbar (Compaq 515 Win7 HomePro 64 bit) as a removable device just like a jumpdrive. Is this normal? I 'safely remove' the device and my wireless connection goes off for a minute then comes back up (according to my HP Wireless Assistant). No harm, no foul, it just seems odd. Any clearing up of this newbie question will be appreciated. Sb644 :rolleyes:

I got a TX1000Z several years ago that has been treating me well. Recently, the area I hit the space bar with my right thumb stopped working intermittently; therefore, sometimes hit space and it does not work.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix? I do not believeI have spilled anything.

i have a presario c552us laptop and it recently started making weird noises around the fan underneath. i took a look and it seems to be coming from the fan. it sounds like some1 stuck something in there and its hitting the fan blades. doesn't happen all the time either. when the fan is spinning, sometimes its great(like right now) and other times it sounds horrible.

i took apart the whole laptop and cleaned out all the dust, especially in the heatsinks and fan assembly. it seems to spin fine when i use canned air on the fan blades. it has the normal high pitch fan spin without the grinding noise and what not.

not sure what the deal with that is, but maybe the fan has issues gripping or spinning itself. seems to spin fine with my help.

so it sounds like i pretty much need to replace the fan and the motor.

can i replace just the motor and fan? or do i have to buy the whole assembly with the weird shaped heatsink?

do you guys have any reputable sites that u guys purchase laptop parts from?

-To begin with, how would i know if i can replace my processor, and what processors should be compatible with my system? Would a more powerful CPU cause problem to my system's cooling ability?

-The GPU is coming built-in with the motherboard? Can i update to any notebook-based GPU i want?
Maybe some GTX series Nvidia?

I have a problem installing xp64 on my notebook (dv7 3020ed).

The system is provided with windows 7 x64 but i don't like the OS, allso it has a lot of HP junk installed on it, witch im not planning to use.

I'm using this pc for my work when im not at the office.
(webdesign e.d.)

Now i have tried to install xp x64, but i couldn't find a sata driver, i tried to set ahci to ide but the bios does not allow to change the settings.

I have tried it with an other hp raid driver on a floppy but it didn't fix my problems..

Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

I would realy like to fix it, because i bought xp x64 and i can't reinstall windows 7 because it is pre installed.. so i have no CD.
Sure i could delete the programs, but i want a clean install.
