Sorta back on topic: I used to work with carbon fiber about 10 years ago. We used it to make orthotics (prescription shoe inserts.) The stiffest material available at the time was carbon fiber impregnated with acrylic. Sheets 1/16"...
My Refurb'd 1710 had a single scratch on the front left palmrest corner. other than that, it was immaculate. Screen was perfect. Case was shiny and clean. It came packed exactly like a new one that we ordered at my work at the time.
You may see a bigger improvement if you upgrade to the 512 SLI cards (If you can find them.) 256 may not be enough to cache all the textures and you may be experiencing lag as textures are being loaded in and out.

Its amazing how photographers and graphic designers made due with VGA for 10+ years, yet today's crop of so-called-experts can't seem to figure it out. . .

Also, not to be rude, but as someone who has used Dell for work for so many years, why on earth would you expect their consumer (Inspiron) line to be "platform stable?" If you needed a certain component (DVI, higher end card)...
