You can see evry thing you want to know here , that website will show you how to make the partition visible and hide it again, only change it if you are sure you can do without the restore function. I used this to make my mediadirect...

have you tried updating the firmare? very strange for 2 drives to do the same thing unless its a common fault.

Where abouts are the older versions? are they on a ftp site or something? ive not seen them in the download section.
