You probably wouldn't see much difference that way, but you could set up Virtual PC and install all your other apps inside that and leave the base OS for just games and VPC itself. The emulation inside VPC makes it unsuitable for games,...
I use I8KfanGUI. Need to uninstall and reinstall every once in a while when it stops working, but it's not designed for the 9100 so I'm happy it works when it does. Also lets you control what temps the fans turn on/off/change speed.
These machines run in the 50s because that what the thermal tables in the BIOS that control the fans are set to. Running in the 50s is fine. I run F@H on mine and it still stays in the 50s, just kicks the fans in a little more often to...
I agree with your explanation of the current draw on the DC side. This company claimed that the Dell adapter was very inefficient and a higher rated inverter was required. The point I was trying to make was that the Dell adapter is...
Only if you had both threads fully loaded to start with. Killing one thread only drops the temps by one or two degrees in my experience. At idle or moderate loads, you probably wouldn't see the difference.
If we don't get any word on the Targus 120W Auto/Air in the next week, I'm might take the plunge since I will need something soon for a long trip next month.
There should be no issues with doing that. I've even done it with completely dissimilar systems and managed to get it worked out with new drivers most of the time.
Has anyone tried a Targus 120W (or similar) universal Auto/Air adapter? I know it won't charge the battery, but when not charging the battery, my 9100 draws less than 100 watts, even at 100% load. I think it will work and be more...
I have that same one and it's VERY easy to use. Remove 2 screws, plug the drive into the connector, slide it into the housing and replace screws. Total time is less than one minute. I upgraded to the 7200RPM drive and put my 5400 in...
