Yes, the CPU is a standard socket 478 CPU. Be careful when getting a new CPU. The new Prescott 3.0 and higher run quite a bit hotter and will make the fans run faster/more often.

It will ruin your AC adapter. I guess if your current adapter is dying, you could use that one before you send it back to Dell. Don't plug your new adapter into that or it WILL ruin that one too!
No, that drive does not support DVD-RAM disks.
The Dell CD should do a clean install of windows. The image they load at the factory has all the pre-loaded stuff.
