The LCD turns on and off (off = no backlight, like the lid is closed) depending on what position it's in. Some fumbling around reveals that the cable seems picky about where it's positioned. Moving the cable from left to right reproduces...

My own plan is to get a CDRW/DVD drive for my notebook and then get an external Plextor DVD-burner. Plextor always makes quality stuff, and I can easily use it on both my notebook and desktop.

The eMachines website has listed an M6810 and M6811. The price and specs appear the same as the M6805/6809 though. Typo maybe? Anyone have anymore info?
