It's actually better to insert the card once your computer has finished booting up. I've solved a lot of problems doing it that way than powering up the laptop with the card already inserted.
For my 3790, I use the APC Travel Power Air/Auto Adapter

- I got it for its built-in surge protection and it's air adapter (if I ever fly internationally)

I was wondering, is it possible to upgrade the 3790 to a 3880 by switching out motherboards/gpus? From some of the pics I've seen ... it looks like it uses the exact same case.
