It wasnt that hard at all really. Once you take out the heatsink, there are 3 screws that hold down the fan. Take them out and the fan just falls right out. Looking into the heatsink from where the fan was where i found the dustball. ...
so, i fixed the problem tonight. i decided to take apart the heatsinks and try and switch the fans to see if the cpu fan wasnt cooling as it should, but unfourtunatly the power wires arnt hte same lengenths and they cpu didnt reach...
so, yeah. since alienware doesnt sell replacment heatsink/fan kits to customers aparently, im looking online for the right part. This is the exactly heatsink and fan sitting over my CPU....but the websites im visiting are labeling it...
well, tried undervolting and still no change. keeps over heating. im going to have to order a fan/heatsink from AW to see if thats the problem
well, im already using NHC, and its set to max performance when gaming. But it doesnt allow for fan control. The AC5, i followed the guide exactly, more than once, so im sure that i have that applied correctly. Nothing is brining this...
I'm having serious heat issues with my m9700's cpu. It's idling around 70, and topping 90 on load till the the comp dials back and cools down. Ive tried everything i can think of. My last theory could be the fan not working as it...

Turns out, underclocking by even a small amount lowered the temp enough to stop the built in underclock. No noticeable difference in games. Sweet.
