It's probably like my compaq that has that press f11 thing. When I reinstalled Windows, I completely reformated the hard drive, removing the back up partition that it gets the data from. I'm assuming that the emachines works the same...
I also operated on my laptop. I went far enough to remove the heatsink, clean off the measly amount of thermal grease, and put new stuff on (I just wanted to see the processor die while I had it opened ). So far, so good.

Mine been good for a few weeks, but I did nothing. I just have this motto in thought while using the computer: "If this happens just once more, I am so opening you up!" So far its worked...
Some weeks are worse then others for me. I personally haven't had it for a few weeks (knock on wood), but I'm sure it'll be back.
Unfortunately I'm no longer under warranty, so I might just resort to opening it and seeing what I can do. Clean it out, and if the problem isn't solved, get Best Buy to replace for $$$.
