Have you tried setting the power mode to "always on". surely a may04 bios would be rescent enough... maybe asus tech support can help? let us know whay you find out.
The reviewers criticism seems to stem from a subjective preference, rather than an actual "quality issue". The screen in question has a resolution of 1280x800. It's up the the individual to determine if this is satisfactory....

I am also curious! No need to apologize. Just as a sidenote....I have found that if a piece of computer equipment makes it a year it can very likely last forever. Anything I have ever had fail always did so in the first 90 days.

Have a look at the Emachines 6805. It is odm'd by Arima and by all accounts a very nice unit. Best buy just added a bunch of rebates to em to make room for the new 6810 and 6811's. By all accounts these are great machines. Or...
