Make sure your vents/fans are clean. I find my laptop starts heating over time as well because of all the dust that eventually clog up all the vents. After cleaning it out my lappies usually back to cool again.

Download the program TuneXP and set it for ultra-fast booting (and make other tweaks if desired) It cut my boot time in half

Mine is on nearly 20+ hours a day for months. I believe Adam also has left sager machines running 24/7 for weeks if not months.
