I just saw this thread and wanted to suggest that you also check the CPU fan and heatsink for dustballs since you found some in the video fan. Also, make sure the fans are turning.
I'm using a Patriot 1GB stick of DDR400 PC3200 in it right now and it's been rock solid. I also used a 512MB Corsair ValueSelect DDR333 PC2700 and it worked fine with that too. I am pretty sure that the manual says to use DDR400 though.
