I have the S480.
I ordered it from Sonystyle.com
the only other place to get it was from the sony shops. but those are preconfigured.
Online i customized mine with
1.73ghz, 512mb DDR2, NV6200,xbrite, BT / wifi b/g, DVD-RW.
look at the dell XPS 2.
its pretty wicked.
uses centrino 2.0ghz cpu
intel p915 chip
17"Wide UXGA screen
nvidia GoForce 6800 256mb.
compatible to the 7700 (but doean't have the dual optical or dual drive raid option).
if you have original boxes, it'll make parting out easier.
buyers on ebay love original boxes.
$1700? most people would go after the Dell Dimension XPS (especially when they have those 25% coupons).
just a thought.
I'm thinking if you want to maximize your money,
part the system out on ebay.
you could sell the cpu, ram, speakers, vid card, mobo, ps
they would fetch some $$$
case and burner can be had for cheap
just my 2 cents.
Kingston part # KSY-V505/512 cost is like $170 per 512mb module.
sony part # PCGE-MM512D (Sony) or VGP-MM512G (Sony)
good luck i don't know pricing for overseas. you're in turkey right?
they have a memory finder you can use to find what fits your lappie.
i do not believe the memory is proprietary, the mobo maybe finiky in terms of the cas latency required and memory speed required from all the ics...
It depends on your needs.
If you want longer battery life, use for class multi purpose ... better get those Dell 6000 or 9200 wiht the UXGA screens or the new dell 9300 these sells for around $900-$1500
the AW are solid laptops but...
