My best advice is to assess what you will be using the laptop for. Mobility-wise, the 5150 has a more reasonable travel weight than the 9100, though battery life should be similar. Performance-wise, the 9100 is definitely the keeper.
Well, updating to all the latest drivers should be a good idea. A clean install and everything else you mentioned is purely optional, but having a password is also a good idea... (nosy roommates).
