That is a very expensive setup.. I got my E1505 for about 1100 and it's somewhat like yours.
what do you mean not give you a huge increase? you could put your computer on standby for about 3 days on battery.
Try to suspend it while you walk between classes. Your hard drive could suffer from a lot of movement.
Seems your ram is malfunctioning. Take off each dimm to see which one is bad.
I had this error a couple of days ago. It seems grub turned my EXT3 partition into NTFS and made it completely useless, so i just deleted it and installed linux from scratch.

No..it changes automatically. But like i said before, your card is very weak, the problem here aint really the memory it's using or not using.
You have an integrated video card, this means it doesnt have any actual memory, so it borrows from your system memory. Battlefield 2 won't run on your computer because your card can't handle it.
I've owned ati and nvidia cards and both drivers are great. Nvidia is better in linux though.
