For all intents and purposes, the intel Macs are PC. They just took the steps to weed out legacy tech and BIOS sooner.
I'd always go for the extended warrant. The average time for a repair for Applecare is 3-4 days from call to having it back in your hands.
To be honest, If they offered the same specs as the 1.83, but in a core solo, I'd have one already.
The Core 2 Duo uses the same socket as the Core Duo and is compatible with the 945M chipset. However, the 965 bill bring a faster bus and other improvements, including 802.11n.

Sounds like a good plan. It gives the combined company first party motherboard solutions as well as graphics cards and put it in a better position to compete with both intel and Nvidia.
It's (merom) as fully 64-bit as the Pentium-4/D family is.

Cheaper? Given the same specs (with the exception of the video card) the 17" MBP is $700 less expensive than the big dell. In fact, it's not that much more than a fully loaded E1705.
