Yea they allow hd4870s sli or single now since the m15x was released, I guess they needed some kind of addition to the m17x.

It will boot up with an ati hd3870 also, but you can't use sli with 2 of them.

Keep sli off and try a new card, make sure you put the new card into the main gpu slot, not the daughter.
