I have dealt with this issue before as a laptop repair specialist. This is a motherboard issue. HP will replace the inverter and It will work for a while then die again. Keep sending it to HP under warranty.

Hey Pete. Your problem is an LCD issue not a cable and not the inverter. I own a laptop parts and repair company and have seen this issue one too many times. Good luck and let me know if I can assist you in sourcing that part.

That is not a good sign. Return it. I had repair a few of those. We had to change out the dc connector. Return it.
