The dell USB ports don't have enough amps to power the HD enclosure. As the manual says you can use both usb ports together to supply enough power without using an external power supply.
First thing i did was install sp1 so that's not the problem. I found this on the dell forum: "usb ports were only meant to power devices that require less than
1500 mA of power. A USB Hard Drive is gonna require way more power...
I get that same non-HI-SPEED message from both USB ports. I thought the I600M had two USB 2.0 ports? The device manager lists a USB 2.0 enhanced host controller.
I've got a vantec nexstar IDE to USB external HD enclosure. When it's first connected to the I600M, there is a message: HI-SPEED USB Device non-HI-SPEED USB HUB. The only way I can avoid this message is if I use a powered USB HUB....
I bought my Travelstar 7K60 from newegg and installed it in an I600M. Should I install a firmware update? The Dell update is listed for the 8600 not the 600M but it seems to be the exact same HD.

The hitachi site had the 7k and the e7k. Can't tell what the difference is.
