It only made mine a few mm thicker, I think the actual cover is about 2mm or so, and it just sits on the top of the screen and clicks on. Sorry I don't have any detailed pics.

Thanks for the reply guys. It is the 9 cell battery, I'll see how long it actually lasts if it fails that test I'll get in touch with Dell. I do have Quickset installed and thats what tells me I have that much left. Cheers Dan.

I've only had my Inspiron 9400 since May. I have used it on both battery and power, but most of the time power. Recently I've had to start using the battery more, from 100% charge showing if I unplug it from the power, it immidietly...

I liked the old 5150, was my first dell and loved it. Am stuck on the dells now and migrated onto the Inspiron 9400 now.

I haven't got anywhere with getting my LED's hooked up yet. Still finding out info on how and where to tap into for the power and I don't know which colour wires on the LED's do what ? anyone know. Cheers Dan.
