cooling could very well be an issue, however over time pluging in your adapter and unpluging it could do it too.....when u plug in ur ac even though u dont see it there is a small shock when the ac meets the dc jack over time the heat...

you could always use the bezels from a normal dv6k...not the special edition but the normal black one, ive seen these bezels on ebay
On your laptop there are four screws covered by a rubber nipple....remove the ruber nipple, pop off the front bezel carefully. inverter is UNDER not behind, but under the lcd, long skinny green thing..

This is a common issue with the ole 7ks....develops a short inside the unit where the dc meet the motherboard, can be easily fixed up....get a new Dc jack and some soldering equipment, email me for details....
