1. Do you currently own an SSD and are you planning on purchasing one in the near future? If so, which brands are you considering (Intel, OCZ, Crucial, Kingston, Patriot Memory, Samsung, or other)? Don't own one. Will probably buy one...
Geforce fx 5200 is about $100 and it supposedly runs the game at the second highest detail setting at high resolution. Might be worth a look? I've never used the card but it's one that I'm looking at.
I don't know if it means anything, but I'm using the drivers that HP included with the laptop, so newer drivers may improve performance even more. Also, the more ram the better it seems for this game, especially with a 32 or 64 meg...
I just recieved my copy of Doom 3 (friends in high places ) Anyways, I first tried it on my desktop, Celeron 2.4 GHz, 256mb ram, Geforce 2 mx 32mb. The game loaded and looked great but didn't sustain a playable framerate. So I loaded...

The 420 go is relatively the same as the 440. it's slightly slower though. I did play ut2004 on an r3120ca last week, a friend broight the laptop to work to show it off
I've never played the game, but for comparison the 440 can run ut2004 at 800x600 with all settings at medium and it runs quite smoothly. So a 2 year old game like ffxi should run at almost full settings.
