I'm pretty sure it was a Bios update that fixed the keypress problem, not a hardware update.

Kirab: All video cards will work in all versions of directX. The only thing that the card won't be able to do is DX8 features. It will run the game perfectly, but any special effects that DX8 has added (Per-pixel shaders..etc...)...

The 420 go is relatively the same as the 440. it's slightly slower though. I did play ut2004 on an r3120ca last week, a friend broight the laptop to work to show it off

I've never played the game, but for comparison the 440 can run ut2004 at 800x600 with all settings at medium and it runs quite smoothly. So a 2 year old game like ffxi should run at almost full settings.
