Follow the gentoo doc instructions with their livecd- go all the through the chroot function. Once you're in there, emerge dhcpcd, and reboot. That should solve (most) of your problems, if everything else is configured properly. Good luck!
mmm... I think you gave up too fast... you seem to have forgotten to emerge dhcpcd, which is the dhcp client for the computer. Obviously, without a dhcp client, there's no way for the computer to fetch an IP address, and hence, no way...
