I use an HP Scanjet 2400 which doesn't work on Linux but I just boot up a virtual machine on VMware and scan from there. I'm planning to buy a new one soon which'll work natively on Linux.
I got it to work with Fedora today. The internal mic doesnt work. I dont know about the mic port though cause I dont have a mic to check that. The red light from the optical out port doesnt work so I dont know if that ports works...
Any idea which distro has updated version of ALSA? I'm downloading Fedora right now, though no idea if I'll have the same problem or worse.
No I didn't. That page said it will not interfere with Ubuntu packages, so I thought it was unecessary. I tried removing them and compiling it again, but still have the same problem.

I bought the same system too. I think the blacks are a little too dark, on the screen. Apart from that, everything's good. Vista sucks, so I installed Linux.
