Okay thanks.. I guess I'll be sticking with the standard CPU upgrade then. Either that or a new laptop since the 8887 is aging technology-wise. Functionally it's been perfect and even runs World of Warcraft quite well. Thanks for...
So what I was thinking of was sticking a Pentium M 740 chip into an 8887. The chip is socket 478, 533mhz fsb, and in the same voltage range as the 2.4ghz regular P4 I have in it now as far as I can tell. Might that work in an 8887?...
I doubt that theory.. memory tends to get warm these days. Plus, I think the majority of hard drive heat is generated simply from the motor spinning it. I haven't felt much memory myself, so I can't be sure though. It's just that the...
I use 1600x1200 on my 16.1 screen most of the time. Except when I'm sitting further back from it and then I use 1280x1024. I don't notice the smoothing too much and it's easier to read.

Just for reference, I bought my 8887 with 256 and upgraded afterwards to 512. So far the extra 256 I bought has been working flawlessly. I paid about $33 for the 256 I bought and stuck in. I could probably have found it for less, but...
hmm.. that would make me think that the 8890 will have a different 16.1" screen then.. I wish I could get my 8887 16.1" screeen replaced with a newer one.. if one is coming out. I'm happy as-is, but better contrast and...
