On your gateway is it ati ? I have seen kext mods for intel graphics but not ati. I'm still looking. Networking next . I just got Darwine up . This is getting fun and I may have to get a CHEAP Intel based desktop! Thanks
Well I got it installed in about 30 min,on a seperate partition, following osx86project's easy instructions. Now quad booting XP / XP64 / Linspire 5 / OsX 86. Why ? I just like killing time . Anyway here goes . I had to remove ati kext files to boot in reg mode. Wrong ati drivers meant crashes on x start up (no 3d accel. & stuck at 1024x768). I have sound only from left speaker (other people say the same thing with vt chips). I have no network connection (doing more...
As far as I have read the AMD64 has sse3 implemented partially. There is a patch to allow sse2 to work also . I have been searching other sites and it looks promising but will take time to get working. This is the development kit only so it will be buggy and zero support and updates but I like messing around when I have time.

Just curious has anyone tried it on a m68xx ? I was going to but don't have too much time to play with it . Just got onebase linux up . It seems like a good distro so far (only 32bit). Still trying to find the best distro for our lappys. Honestly Linspire 5.0 seems to work for me the best.
"Gateway aquiredemachines, not the other way around."
I have often wondered how did Gateway buy eMachines, and eMachines let it happen, after eMachines surpased Gateway in market share (e no.3 G no.4) and quality. Then if you see the new Gateways they sure look like old eMachines. My eMachines rock , Not overloaded with b.s. like hp/compaq, you know aol , mindspring and other useles crap(norton etc.). Just os and some other easily deleted progs. Kinda hard to justify...
Clear cmos before installing new chip? I've never had to change a laptop cmos. But I would think pulling the chip out would clear it. I'm not sure , I would email badflash and find out EXACTLY what he means.
Hot flashing not that hard really ,not for the nervous, loosen bios on good comp first I've done it several times due to my own bad luck etc. If you take your time cause you need your comp TODAY you can try it. If you can wait and don't mind paying why not get one. Try www.badflash.com . I never bought a bios from him but did buy other goodies in the I/O glory days . His service was fast and friendly. Good Luck
Being a novice myself, I'm curious about this myself. I read somewhere ,maybe here, that memory a better option first. Since programs run from memory I would think this is true. The more ram the less accessing of hdd is needed. Sounds good to me beacause "I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night"
