That laptop has up to 256mbs of shared RAM (cached from the system).. It is likely the white slot is a mini PCI, or PCI-e slot fro a wifi card or modem...
Looks like the revision is A0... A01 is the revision of the heatsink and fan... Check for any writing stamped on to the PCB, they sometimes do that as well...
Not many ultra thins out there with a slot... Look at HP, not great build quality, but some innovative designs, as do dell...
I use many types of universal chargers and most work.. Yeah some are crap too... DELL's can be the biggest pain with these.. I have used the same charger perfectly on other machines, come to DELL and no dice....
If I have an old laptop that works fine, I never strip it for parts to sell separately - you always get left with bits of useless plastic... I only move on parts from a laptop that is totally defunct (ie motherboard or screen has gone)...
I think the laptop is too new for those distros yet... More than likely the video card is the issue, loading the video module, even in safe mode... I am not a fan of SUSE, however try the latest live CD versions and see what happens,...
It would be what I would expect.... However - ask for one with windows7 - Vista is outdated now... Also ask for a better wifi card, all coming with 'n' as standard..(And yes it is better than your stolen one)...
