Agreed. Although it could be something in the charging circuitry, my first "fix" would be to try a known good battery.
Well, it is not the inverter. Could it be the cable to the lcd? Possibly so, or the lcd itself. As it works properly on an external monitor, you can rule out the motherboard/GPU at least.

Good! It probably actually uses some 3.2 to 3.5 gb of that ram, not all 4gb to be sure, but likely more than just 3gb even.
