You need to download and install dell quickset. Thats the program that gives visuals on those buttons. You can get from the dell website.

I have the same issue, but only if i use the dell drivers. If I use the ones automatically installed by Vista, it works fine, do thats what i do.

Why would you format the drive in this case? Wouldnt the best option be to uninstall the driver and reinstall it? It is possible you have the wrong driver as well

You probably just need the driver, what operating system do you have?

If you get Vista and get an anytime upgrade DVD, you can do a full reinstall off that with your key.
