some info, probably f2 for bios setup, seems like recovery is f11
gateway recovery cd's do not require a key code to activate a wndows install, this is automatic based on the gateway bios.
looked up the 6831 on gateway site, uses intel 945GM chipset,
cpu is a socket M
max memory is 4 gigs of 667
max cpu would be a T7600, T7400 would be close.
the other cpus op mentioned are socket P & would not work
tuck ! assuming you have a Gateway & a plastic tray/carrier for the HD & want to focus on HD cooling ?
Would consider drilling multiple holes 1/4-1/2" or so diameter in the bottom of the tray & then attaching a thin...
unless your ML3109 is quite different from mine & the specs on Gateway Website, it has pata HD drive. While the chipset can support SATA, there are no connectors on the MB for SATA
This is why there is no BIOS SETUP option to modify...

yes, the raised metal square in the center of the chip, is where the thermal compound should be applied, in a thin even coat, after cleaning with plain ole rubbing alcohol & a soft paper towel or cloth.
