I think that new presario x1000 is the best bang for buck,I configured this one 1.5 ghz centrino,512 mb ram,40 gb hd,dvd-cdrw radeon 9200 64 mb and it comes like 1750 and plus with 100$ mail in rebate its 1650 it has beutaiful 15.4 sxga+...

It's the same computer only difrent names dont forget hp and compaq emerged so that is the same thing.Concerning the screen you can choose between wxga,wxsga+ and wuxga

You can try www.pcclub they have some cheap laptops but decent and they dont look cheap!They even have some with amd processors and most of them are with ati radeon 9000 64mb,so give it a try!
